Screen Capturing utility helps in creating screenshots, which can be used later for making presentations and tutorials. Screen capturing is also used extensively in the blogging arena to depict some software or product. Though, there are many screen-capturing utility available, but most of them are not free. Therefore, for your simplicity, I have compiled a few of the best free screen capturing utility, which are discussed below.

It is a simple, free screen capturing tool, which lets you capture the full screen, an application windows or any specific region. To launch the application, you just need to press PrntScr. Once the main application window appears, you can select the capturing mode. The application also allows you to create an animation. The utility saves captured images in BMP, JPG, GIF, PNG and TIFF formats and captured demos (Animation) in WMV format. However, initially after downloading, you have to request for product license by giving you e-mail address. The license will be mailed to you within seconds and you can start using the software

Gadwin PrintScreen

Gadwin Print Screen
It is yet another free screen capturing utility which lets you take screenshots with a lot of ease. The application gets initiated after pressing PrntScrn. You always set any other key as hotkey. With Gadwin, you can capture current window, client window, full screen and rectangular area. After you capture an image, the application allows you to resize it, add gray scale, image shadow and even stamp as well.

ScreenHunter Free

ScreenHunter
It is another screen capturing tool capable of capturing rectangular area, active window and full screen. The saves image file in the GIF, BMP and JPEG format. It is a very simple interface and is not bundled with any other feature like Gadwin PrintScreen. The software also has a Pro version, which comes with additional features but is not free.

Jing

Jing
It is one my favorite screen capturing utility as it comes with a lot of features and of course it is free.  Jing allows you to capture images, capture videos and record webcam as well. After you install the software, you will see a bubble like thing, hovering mouse over that will give you three options- capture, history and preference. You can adjust the settings in preference menu and change the image capturing and video format.

Easy Capture

Easy Screen Capture
It is another screen capturing utility which has fascinated me a lot with its features. The tool allows you to capture full-screen, active window, buttons, toolbars, selected regions along with sliding windows and entire webpage. With Easy Screen Capture, you can even edit captured images and store the image in various formats. The freeware also allows you to add text annotation, arrows and other objects, which can prove handy while making presentation or tutorials.
You can also have a look at Ducklink Screen Capture, PicPick and TakeScreen utilities, which we discussed earlier on in Techmixer. All of these are free too.
